Mera Peak is the highest of the permitted "Trekking Peaks" in Nepal. At 64 76 metres Mera Peak is the highest of the trekking peaks in Nepal. When this is combined with the fact that it offers unparalleled views and stunning panoramas. It makes this trekking peak one of the most sought after mountaineering trips in Nepal. Mera Peak is never particularly technically difficult, but there is the altitude to contend with which makes this an exciting and challenging trip. Trek begins after flying to Lukla and trek in to the Hinku Valley over the Zatrwa La.
After careful acclimatization and some instruction to ensure that we will be safe on the mountain we set up Base Camp at the Mera La. From here we can make our summit bid and enjoy the views of the Khumbu Himal to our north. We then head north towards the Mingbo La, which gives us access to the Khumbu valley beyond. It also means that we do not have to retrace our steps, giving us a circular journey and the chance to explore different regions during the trip. There are spare days allocated in the itinerary for acclimatization and in case of bad weather.
The Base Camp is in a stunning setting but the views from the summit are perhaps unrivalled than from any of the other trekking peaks. The panorama takes in Kanchenjunga, Chamlang and Makalu to the east, while to the north Everest, the unclimbed south face of Lhotse and the Nuptse / Lhotse ridge are visible. To the west Ama Dablam and Cho Oyu complete what is undoubtedly one of the most glorious views in the whole of Nepal. We take the opportunity, during the trek in, to make sure that everyone is well acquainted with the technical equipment that we will be using on the mountain and to brush up on personal skills.
To enjoy the trek and climb fully you need to be fit and walk regularly. Previous climbing or mountaineering experience is preferred since we will be using ropes, crampons and axes, sometimes on exposed ground, and competence on such terrain is needed. Previous experience at altitude is not a pre-requisite, but is useful.

Rescue:
Although ninety-nine percent of the time there won't be any need for a emergency rescue evacuation, emergency situations do arise in the Himalayas with illness, AMS (acute mountain sickness), snow storms, landslide, and avalanches being the primary cause for rescue to take place. In a non-life threatening situation, we will arrange for the porters to carry you to the nearest health post or hospital. Where the situation is more serious, one of your Sherpa's will hurry to the nearest communication center where he can request a Helicopter Rescue from our Kathmandu office.
We have at our disposable one of the best helicopter pilot with many years of flying experience in Nepal Army, and have flown many rescue flights. However, the helicopter rescue is an expensive business, and a typical rescue can cost anywhere between US$ 5400/ & euro; 3600 to US$ 7400/ 0r Euro; 5000, depending on the location of the rescue.
Therefore, we highly recommend that you take travel a insurance which will cover emergency helicopter rescue flight. To enable us to contact your insurance company in case of a rescue and not to loose any valuable time we will need the co-ordinates of your insurance companies’ local representative for Nepal.
