Its a due to significant air traffic congestion over Kathmandu city. To accommodate this, alternative flight arrangements may be necessary during these peak periods.

To address this issue, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has rerouted all flights bound for Lukla through Manthali Airport in the Ramechhap district. Manthali Airport is approximately a 5 hours drive from Kathmandu town.

This measure ensures a smoother and safer travel experience for all passengers heading to Lukla during the high trekking season. While this alternative route may add some travel time, it is necessary to manage air traffic and enhance overall aviation safety. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

In such cases, the pilot may announce a diversion to Phaplu Airport, which is another entry point to the Everest region.

During the flight, the captain may inform passengers of these changes and make a quick decision; either to divert to Manthali, Phaplu, or return to Kathmandu – depending on real-time weather conditions and safety assessments.

If your flight lands in Phaplu, the Phaplu airfare may apply instead of the Lukla fare, though this depends on the situation and the captain’s final decision. In such cases, passengers are responsible for arranging their own transportation from Phaplu to Lukla.

These diversions occur mainly during periods of bad weather, such as heavy rain, dense cloud cover, or fog, and are implemented strictly for passenger safety.
