Sherpani col pass trek itinerary 22 days

Tough adventure hikes at Serpani col pass itinerary compare to most walks in this region leading up to the high mountain passes. The particular route is designed for world travelers who wish to hike to the adventure basecamp Makalu with adventure Serpani col and Amphu Lepcha pass.

1 DayArrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,429 feet), 7 hours.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu. All aspects of trek gear and conditions are discussed to make sure you’re fully prepared, and any last-minute questions answer. In the afternoon around 4 pm, A professional guide Ammar Guni takes you to explore the heritage sites of Kathmandu’s old Kathmandu durbar square, and Asan tole – the oldest Markets in Nepal.

2 Day Kathmandu to Tumlingtar flight (4,60m/1,509 feet). Jeep transfer to Num Village (1,490m/4,872 feet), 5 hours

We take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar airstrip. Tumlingtar is located at an altitude of 1,504 feet above sea level. Tumlingtar is a gateway to exploring Makalu Trek. We set up everything and take a local jeep to Num village. The journey takes about 4-5 hours of off-road jeep drive to reach Num village and stay overnight in a tent.

3 DaySedua treks (1,460m/4,790 feet), 5 hours

Trek to Lumbang through the cornfields. Then the trail drops very steeply through a jungle to the Arun River (660m) bridge. We climb steeply to a primitive tea shop, then through corn and buckwheat field. Moving along the rocky path and tiny terraces planted with corn and barley, we make a long, steep, rough climb to Sedua (1,460m) where we stay tonight.

4 DayTashi gaon trekking (2,070m/6,791 feet), 6 hours

Walk to Kasuwa Khola to Gyang (1,770m) through fertile fields and forested areas to Hindrungma village, and on to Rupisa. During the trail, we cross meadows and several streams and then climb to the Sherpa village of Tashi Gaon, the last permanent settlement in the valley.

5 DayKauma trekking (3,470m/11,385 feet), 6 hours

Trek to Chipla ridge. Then climb past two small streams, then switch back up the ridge in forests to a Kharka at 2900 meters and up to a saddle and Unshisha, a tiny meadow at approximately 330 meters. Here the trail joins the ridge that separates the Iswa and Kasuwa drainages. Walk further to get to Dhara kharka ridge and descend to reach Kauma (3,470m).

6 DayMumbuk trekking (3,570m/11,713 feet), 6 hours

Walk steeply through Rhododendron forests to the top of the ridge, with a large Mani wall. We get superb views of Chamlang, Peak 6, and Peak sec. From the pass, we descend to another lake and then ascend steeply through large boulders to the Tutu La. About 150 meters descending we reach Mumbuk village.

7 DayTrek to Nhe Kharka (3,000m/9,843 feet), 6 hours

We walk through birch and rhododendron forest, we reach Yangle Kharka. Climb Yangle Kharka, and cross Barun Khola to reach Nhe Kharka (3000 m). There is a small gompa on the south side of the valley that offers great mountain views in all directions.

8 DaySherson trekking (4,615m/15,142 feet), 7 hours

Beyond the Nhe Kharka, we follow at Barun river north bank. Barun Valley makes a huge S-shaped curve and the walls rise almost vertically about 6,560 feet above the river, but the trail climbs gently as we approach Ripok Kharka. Still, on the north side of the Barun, the trail turns westward and leaves the rhododendron forests for the alpine tundra. Above Ripok Kharka, the route crosses a rocky crest with a few goths and then ascends alongside a Barun glacier moraine. There are excellent views of Pyramid Peak, Peak 4, Chamlang, Peak 3, and Peak 5, but Makalu is not yet visible.

9 DayTrek to Makalu base camp (5,000m/16,405 feet), 6 hours.

Gradually descend downhill to a minor pass just above Makalu Base Camp. Again descend to a stream, cross on boulders to the base camp on the west bank of the river. From here we get tremendous views of Makalu’s south face. The large buttress of the south face rises across from the base camp. On an ascent, you can see Peak 6, 7, and Baruntse (7,220m); Everest and Lhotse complete in a panorama.

10 Day Makalu basecamp to Hillary camp, 5 hours.

The trek from Makalu Base Camp to Hillary Camp traverses diverse and tough rough terrain. It typically features steep descents, rocky paths sections, requiring careful navigation. As you descend from the high-altitude base camp, the trail can be harder due to its uneven glacial moraine. Weather conditions are unpredictable, with potential snow and snowstorm making proper gear essential.

11 Day Hillary camp to high camp (5,650m/18,538 feet), 5 hours

We walk to high camp today and search and set up the best place for a camping spot.

12 Day Acclimatization at High Camp (day off)

Nothing to do but as you want, you might walk a little bit hiking to get better acclimatization.

13 Day Baruntse Base Camp Trek via crossing Sherpani Col. and West Col (6,143m), 9 hours

Today is the most difficult day that you have to cross over the high passes. First, we cross, Sherpani Col which is located at an altitude of 6,146 meters, and the west col is 6,143m to go to Baruntse Base Camp. Baruntse base camp is located at an altitude of 5,700 meters above the sea.

14 Day Acclimatization at Baruntse Base camp

Explore the Baruntse Base camp and see around to get better acclimatization. But some people want to rest for acclimatization at Baruntse Base camp. they can stay.

15 Day Baruntse Base camp to Amphu Lapcha Base (5,400m/17,717 feet), 6 hours

We walk today to get Amphu Lepcha base camp. We set up our camp and stay overnight.

16 Day Chukhung resort hikes via Amphu Laptsa pass (5,850m/19,194 feet), 7 hours

Another tough adventure for today is to go over Amphu Lepcha pass. Basically, Amphu Labtsa or Amphu Lapcha pass is a success only if everyone has good gear. The pass is tough but it is possible to cross however it takes about 7 hours to reach Chhkung village. You can see the Grand view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tabuche, chocolate, and of course Island peak from the trail. We set up our campsite at Chukhung village to stay overnight.

17 Day Chukhung to Pangboche (3,985m/13,075 feet), 8 hours

Get ready to descend with an easy Pangboche hike. We will be retracing the trail along the Imja Khola and crossing it over a suspension bridge. If you are not tired? we visit Pangboche Monastery in Pangboche and explore the culture and tradition around Pangboche.

18 DayPangboche to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,287 feet), 6 hours

Leaving the Pangboche, we hike in the descent downhill trail via Tengboche pass and reach the famous town of the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar. The trek to the old Namche Bazaar will take us around 6 hours. Once you reach at Namche Bazaar, you can enjoy the day wandering around the Sherpa village.

19 Day Namche to Lukla Bazaar (2,860m/9,384 feet), 7 hours

Today is the last day of our trek. Once we have our morning breakfast, we will begin our trek to Lukla. As the elevation decreases, we will go further away from the iconic views of Everest. However, we are carrying the beautiful memories of being in the foothills of the world’s highest peak. Reaching the Lukla, we celebrate the successful adventure trip. In the meantime, we duly thank other crew members along with supporting crew members for making our trip comfortable and successful.

20 Day In the morning, Lukla to Kathmandu flights (35 minutes). Transfer to the hotel.

We board a morning flight from the Lukla airstrip to Kathmandu town. Leaving the enormous mountains behind us, we fly over the high mountains to get to Kathmandu. You will have a full day to rest or explore the valley before we join you at the farewell dinner.

21 Day Transfer to the Airport.

Today, we drop you at Kathmandu international airport for your further flights back home.

Question: How can I charge my phone or a digital camera on my base camp budget trekking?

Answer: There are very few chances to charge the battery therefore either you can trvel with a portable power bank or bring extra pair of battery incase. Remember to bring your own adapters!

Question: Are there any communication facilities?.

Answer: Yes! Only in some places.

Question: When should I book my trip and what are the payment terms?.

Answer: We recommend booking your trip with us as early as possible. While we strive to accommodate last-minute bookings, a 15% advance deposit is required to secure your reservation. This deposit allows us to make all necessary arrangements for your trip however, the remaining payment can be settled upon your arrival in Nepal.

Question: Who will carry my luggage on the trek?

Answer: We do provide porters to transfer your luggage as soon as we are landing in Tumlingtar airport. As we are a responsible trekking operator agency, each of our porters carries a maximum of 25 kilos of your backpack.

Question: How much distance do I walk each day?

Answer: The total distance of the Sherpani col pass trek is around 350 kilometers starting from Tumlingtar until Lukla airport. In general, the daily hikes are roughly about 15 kilometers but depending upon the above trek itinerary.
