Sherpani col pass trek itinerary 22 days
Tough adventure hikes at Serpani col pass itinerary compare to most walks in this region leading up to the high mountain passes. The particular route is designed for world travelers who wish to hike to the adventure basecamp Makalu with adventure Serpani col and Amphu Lepcha pass.1 DayArrival in Kathmandu (1,350m/4,429 feet), 7 hours.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), transfer you to your hotel in Kathmandu. All aspects of trek gear and conditions are discussed to make sure you’re fully prepared, and any last-minute questions answer. In the afternoon around 4 pm, A professional guide Ammar Guni takes you to explore the heritage sites of Kathmandu’s old Kathmandu durbar square, and Asan tole – the oldest Markets in Nepal.
We take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar airstrip. Tumlingtar is located at an altitude of 1,504 feet above sea level. Tumlingtar is a gateway to exploring Makalu Trek. We set up everything and take a local jeep to Num village. The journey takes about 4-5 hours of off-road jeep drive to reach Num village and stay overnight in a tent.
Trek to Lumbang through the cornfields. Then the trail drops very steeply through a jungle to the Arun River (660m) bridge. We climb steeply to a primitive tea shop, then through corn and buckwheat field. Moving along the rocky path and tiny terraces planted with corn and barley, we make a long, steep, rough climb to Sedua (1,460m) where we stay tonight.
Walk to Kasuwa Khola to Gyang (1,770m) through fertile fields and forested areas to Hindrungma village, and on to Rupisa. During the trail, we cross meadows and several streams and then climb to the Sherpa village of Tashi Gaon, the last permanent settlement in the valley.
Trek to Chipla ridge. Then climb past two small streams, then switch back up the ridge in forests to a Kharka at 2900 meters and up to a saddle and Unshisha, a tiny meadow at approx 330 meters. Here the trail joins the ridge that separates the Iswa and Kasuwa drainages. Walk further to get to Dhara kharka ridge and descend to reach Kauma (3,470m).
Walk steeply through Rhododendron forests to the top of the ridge, with a large Mani wall. We get superb views of Chamlang, Peak 6, and Peak sec. From the pass, we descend to another lake and then ascend steeply through large boulders to the Tutu La. About 150 meters descending we reach Mumbuk village.
We walk through birch and rhododendron forest, we reach Yangle Kharka. Climb Yangle Kharka, and cross Barun Khola to reach Nhe Kharka (3000 m). There is a small gompa on the south side of the valley that offers great mountain views in all directions.
Beyond the Nhe Kharka, we follow at Barun river north bank. Barun Valley makes a huge S-shaped curve and the walls rise almost vertically about 6,560 feet above the river, but the trail climbs gently as we approach Ripok Kharka. Still, on the north side of the Barun, the trail turns westward and leaves the rhododendron forests for the alpine tundra. Above Ripok Kharka, the route crosses a rocky crest with a few goths and then ascends alongside a Barun glacier moraine. There are excellent views of Pyramid Peak, Peak 4, Chamlang, Peak 3, and Peak 5, but Makalu is not yet visible.
Gradually descend downhill to a minor pass just above Makalu Base Camp. Again descend to a stream, cross on boulders to the base camp on the west bank of the river. From here we get tremendous views of Makalu’s south face. The large buttress of the south face rises across from the base camp. On an ascent, you can see Peak 6, 7, and Baruntse (7,220m); Everest and Lhotse complete in a panorama.
We walk from Makalu base camp to Hillary base camp hikes spending about 5 hours.
We walk to high camp today and search and set up the best place for a camping spot.
Nothing to do but as you want, you might walk a little bit hiking to get better acclimatization.
Today is the most difficult day that you have to cross over the high passes. First, we cross, Sherpani Col which is located at an altitude of 6,146 meters, and the west col is 6,143m to go to Baruntse Base Camp. Baruntse base camp is located at an altitude of 5,700 meters above the sea.
Explore the Baruntse Base camp and see around to get better acclimatization. But some people want to rest for acclimatization at Baruntse Base camp. they can stay.
We walk today to get Amphu Lepcha base camp. We set up our camp and stay overnight.
Another tough adventure for today is to go over Amphu Lepcha pass. Basically, Amphu Labtsa or Amphu Lapcha pass is a success only if everyone has good gear. The pass is tough but it is possible to cross however it takes about 7 hours to reach Chhkung village. You can see the Grand view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tabuche, chocolate, and of course Island peak from the trail. We set up our campsite at Chhukung village to stay overnight.
Get ready to descend with an easy Pangboche hike. We will be retracing the trail along the Imja Khola and crossing it over a suspension bridge. If you are not tired? we visit Pangboche Monastery in Pangboche and explore the culture and tradition around Pangboche.
Leaving the Pangboche, we hike in the descent downhill trail via Tengboche pass and reach the famous town of the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar. The trek to the old Namche Bazaar will take us around 6 hours. Once you reach at Namche Bazaar, you can enjoy the day wandering around the Sherpa village.
Today is the last day of our trek. Once we have our morning breakfast, we will begin our trek to Lukla. As the elevation decreases, we will go further away from the iconic views of Everest. However, we are carrying the beautiful memories of being in the foothills of the world’s highest peak. Reaching the Lukla, we celebrate the successful adventure trip. In the meantime, we duly thank other crew members along with supporting crew members for making our trip comfortable and successful.
We board a morning flight from the Lukla airstrip to Kathmandu town. Leaving the enormous mountains behind us, we fly over the high mountains to get to Kathmandu. You will have a full day to rest or explore the valley before we join you at the farewell dinner.
