Best time for Gokyo valley Chola pass EBC Trek!

The best time to explore the Gokyo Chola Everest Trek is during the pre-monsoon (spring) and post-monsoon (autumn) seasons. They are the best conditions for trekking, with less weather-related disruptions and magnificent views of the Himalayan peaks.

Spring Season (March to May)

This is one of the most popular times for trekking in the Everest region. The weather is relatively stable, and the temperatures are moderate, making it ideal for trekking. The trails are also adorned with blooming rhododendrons and other flowers, adding to the scenic beauty.

Autumn Season (September to November)

At these months offers clear skies, excellent visibility, and stable weather conditions, providing stunning views of the mountains. Temperatures are also comfortable for trekking, and the trails are dry, making the trek safer and more enjoyable.

Monsoon Season (June to August)

Trek to Chola especially in the monsoon time, we have a heavy rainfall, landslides, slippery trails, and leeches (in a lower elevation) can make trekking difficult and less enjoyable. The cloud cover often obscures mountain views. Its not an idle time to explore however, there are still a few trekkers on the trails because of low season and lush green landscapes.

Winter Season (December to February)

In the winter months, temperatures at higher altitudes can be extremely cold, often dropping well below freezing, necessitating adequate cold-weather gear and preparation. Snow and ice can make trails, especially high passes like Cho La, hazardous.

Additionally, many lodges may be closed due to harsh weather conditions, limiting accommodation options. However, winter offers clear skies and breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks, providing an unique and serene trekking experience.

Gokyo Chola Pass EBC trekking difficulty level

The Gokyo Chola Pass Everest Base camp (EBC) Trek is considered a challenging trek that requires a good level of physical fitness and prior trekking experience. The difficulty arises from several factors, including high altitudes, steep ascents and descents, and the need to cross the Cho La Pass, which stands at 5,420 meters.

Trekkers can face rapidly changing weather conditions, which can add to the difficulty, especially when traversing the Chola pass. Therefore, appropriate physical preparation is essential for this trek. Trekkers should engage in regular cardiovascular exercises such as running, cycling, or swimming to build stamina.

Likewise, strength training, particularly focusing on the legs and core, will help manage the demanding terrain. It’s also important to practice for an easy hike with a loaded backpack to simulate trekking conditions.

Altitude acclimatization is critical, and trekkers should prepare well to spend several days at high elevations, where the oxygen levels are significantly lower. Proper acclimatization practices, such as ascending gradually and staying hydrated, are crucial to prevent altitude sickness and ensure a safe and enjoyable trek.

Note for Chola pass trekkers!

When trekking the Gokyo Valley, Chola Pass, and Everest Base Camp, it’s essential to acclimatize gradually to prevent altitude sickness, and to be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions with proper gear. Ensure you have necessary permits, stay hydrated, carry enough cash, and bring a first aid kit. Use Everest Link cards for connectivity and respect local customs. Additionally, avoid plastic waste by using water purification methods instead of buying bottled water.

The information provided above serves a standard template for your trip, however we are able to customize this trip according to your specific requirements upon request. Ammar and his team played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of our trip to Gokyo and Everest Base Camp. From the early planning stages, Ammar promptly and thoroughly addressed all our queries, making the preparation process smooth and reassuring.

During the trek, our guides, Kamal and Som, proved to be exceptional and attentive. Their extensive knowledge of the Khumbu valley and close ties with local businesses enabled us to secure excellent accommodations at each stop along the way.

Their expertise also came to the forefront when some members of our group needed to detour to lower elevations. Kamal and Som swiftly rearranged a different program, ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone.

For anyone considering a trek in the Everest region, I wholeheartedly recommend Ammar and his team. Their dedication, professionalism, and genuine care will undoubtedly make your journey an unforgettable and enriching experience.

Everest Base Camp Trek with Bishnu Guide

March 27, 2022

We have booked Everest base camp trek with a Gokyo Treks and Expedition, a local agency in Nepal. Like other trekking, we choose a guide Bishnu Panday for our Everest holiday. Although it is a peak season there were very less trekkers in the region because of covid-19 travel restrictions.

Ammar, owner of the agency was friendly and answered all of my questions, and offered a cheaper deal to us. Luckily we had good weather, a perfect Lukla flight, and also from base camp, we achieved the most amazing view of Khumbu Icefall and little stone stupas, an open memorial park of death climbers.

Besides of trekking, Ammar took us to the world heritage sites of Kathmandu. Thanks, Ammar for arranging a great trip for us. We are hoping to be back for next adventure in the coming spring season in Nepal. – Martha Kipar, Garmisch, Germany

Everest Base Camp trek via Chola Pass and Gokyo

November 17, 2021

I recently completed my wish list of going to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo with assistance of Gokyo Treks and Expedition, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to go with the company. Ever since I contacted Gokyo Treks, Ammar Guni has assisted me with lots of decisions and given me advices, from what to expect on my trip to what are the essentials needed.

I was greeted warmly by Ammar when I touched down at Kathmandu airport, stayed at his house, and had a nice dinner with his family. Ammar even walked me to Thamel to get remaining essentials for my trip, and he made it so much easier since I’m not local.

While trekking, I was assigned a guide who then became friend, Tej Regmi, a thoughtful guide and genuine at doing his work. He gave full attention especially when crossing Chola Pass glacier which is dangerous. Tej even suggested alternative trekking routes since I was finishing my trip earlier than expected. The best is, friends who I knew along my trip even complimented him for being thoughtful.

Overall, I’m very happy with services by Ammar and his team, and for me their actions have spoken louder than words. Thanks for the great experience Gokyo Treks and Expedition! I strongly recommend them if you’re visiting Nepal.

Gokyo and Everest Base Camp treks via Chola pass

We spent a great time travelling in Nepal with Gokyo Treks and Expedition with our guide, Hira, who did a fantastic job showing us the Himalayas. We highly recommend trekking with this agency. Ammar was always very helpful, and answered all the questions we had asked. He was very fair when talking about the costs. Whether we needed their help, they were there.
