Clockwise hiking from Gokyo lakes to Chola pass is tough compared to other sides the trail is slope slippery. We ask our clients for the level of Chola pass difficulty every time when they return to Kathmandu. Their feedback is almost the same as other tourists that it’s more challenging, adventure difficulty rather than crossing from Lobuche to Chola pass direction. Therefore, we have kept that situation serious to make your better holiday, visit the Everest base camp first then cross the pass to Gokyo lakes. So, our program dependably incorporates rest days and develops steadily, so as to adapt to the height.

Chola Pass Trek Review
EBC Hiking via Gokyo Lakes - Chola Pass
Ammar, owner of the Gokyo Treks Company came to know from one of our office colleagues. He booked everything for us from we appeared to the airport in Kathmandu until the day that we leave. Everything is very satisfying throughout the whole trip. From shopping in Thamel Street (Our Guide Kamal follow us around the street to advise us for what is the appropriate hiking gear to purchase) to overcome to the 3 high passes adventure treks.
The guide will give us a briefing every evening throughout the whole hiking trip to get us not only physically and mentally ready for the second-day hike but also to carry the correct gear. Besides, he also briefs us on a lot of news about the mountain, how to prevent AMS and more.
Not to mention that our assistant guide Mr Bhupal did a really good job serving us from the daily hiking route as well as in the guest houses. Our four ever-smiling porters (Kieran, Hira, and Prem) did a great job too. The three porters also come back down to assist us when they reach the Chola Pass peak and Kongma la peak, contributing a lot to our successful crossing.
Before leaving to Europe, Ammar invited us for a typical Nepali dinner. It was an opportunity to talk more with Ammar about the volunteering organization that he helped society in various ways, including sponsoring kids who lost parents in Earthquake 2015.
In summary, Ammar and his team were honest and professional. Great arrangement and communication with Ammar were very quick. – Thomas, Woldgang and Tine Kilbert, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany.
Response from Gokyo Treks Nepal
Dear Thomas Kilbert for the time to review your Nepal trekking with Gokyo Treks & Expedition agency. We hope to serve you again on your next trip to Nepal.
Everest base camp and Kalapattar is the best hike
We were a group of four (my wife, our daughter and her boyfriend) and we started on 15th October 2018 from Kathmandu to Lukla. After fly into Lukla, we did 17 days climbing trip up to Everest base camp and Kalapattar. This was our third time of trek in Nepal. Before we had been in Langtang/Gosainkund and in the Annapurna region up to ABC, and the Everest region is certainly the most spectacular one. But, obviously, it is also the most crowded one.
Ammar had been a perfect guide for us, extremely helpful in choosing the proper lodges, getting our food ready in time, and just making life as easy and entertaining as possible. Although he is young, he has a lot of experience in these regions, and, what is very helpful, a lot of friends among the locals. This can be useful: for example, the boss of Sita Airlines at the airport in Lukla is his friend.
You might have heard of problems arising in Lukla when the weather is bad for several days and the planes cannot fly. Tourists are getting nervous because they might miss their international flights. And here Ammar´s friend would be very helpful and find you a place on a plane for flying out.
Furthermore, Ammar´s rates are quite decent, much cheaper than when you book with one of the large trekking organizations. And finally, he managed to choose three porters for us who were the best we had. They even came back several times, after they had reached the day’s destination, to help us with our own bags. I had never experienced that with other porters we had so far.
Don´t hesitate to ask further questions, I am happy to answer, and had a good time there. Best wishes, and namaste (as training for Nepal )
Response from Gokyo Treks Nepal
Thank you Ingeborg and Hannes for your time to drop us a review
Couldn't have dreamt of better!
My husband and I set our eyes on Gokyo Treks back in March when we were deciding what company would be best for us. And we couldn’t be more satisfied, we arranged for an 18-day trek with Everest Base Camp trek while visiting a Gokyo first, followed by a 3 night Chitwan Jungle Safari in October of 2016. Everything was amazing, simply put.
We stayed with Ammar and his family while we were in Kathmandu and they really treated us as friends and family. We could really feel Ammar’s generosity and warm heart.
Our guide Ram was incredible as well! We really felt a strong connection with him by the end of our trek. He knew English really well and definitely knew everything about where we were and about the Himalayan culture on our trek. What I thought was an exceptional job on his part was when I got sick when we were in Gokyo, we wanted to see if there was another route we could take that was just as scenic, just not to base camp, and he sat us down with a map and showed us where all we could go for the rest of our trek. We were left not having a single regret and not feeling like we missed out on base camp. Especially since we did make it to Gokyo!
Our Chitwan trip was the perfect way to relax after our long trek, Ammar booked us the Chitwan Village Resort and it was nothing short of amazing!
On our bus trip back from Chitwan, I somehow managed to forget our camera on the bus and didn’t realize it till an hour or so later, feeling defeated and terrible, Ammar was quick to call the bus company and they said they found it! So Ammar and his kind heart walked my husband down to the bus station at 6 am the next morning to retrieve it. I don’t think we would be able to get our camera back without him! I couldn’t imagine a more ideal way to visit another country. – Kandice Derby
Hello, I’m Patrick, Kandice’s husband. Prior to our arrival in this Nepal I didn’t quite know what to expect other than trekking followed by relaxation. When we arrived we were greeted by Ram and taken to Ammar’s home, after we formally met and he showed us around we settled in and caught up on some much-needed rest. The following day he took time out to address and questions or concerns, and that evening we met our guide to be and had ample time to get to know him.
The trip in its entirety was exceptional just as Kandice described, with our guide and Ammar taking time out for us whenever we felt we required something or anything further. The hospitality, in my opinion, is unmatched as Ammar and his entire family are very kind and forthcoming, I cannot recommend anyone else as I cannot vouch for their services. If you do just so happen to choose GT you will not be disappointed, the staff here even showed us around a busier part of the city where the market resides and even lent us a personal cellphone if we became lost, that’s unheard of!
