Cho la pass

Hike to Everest Base Camp passing Cho la route provides you with a thrilling adventure of a lifetime suitable for professional walkers looking for something challenging. As it is a tough trek route, we recommend it only for experienced trekkers who already have some trips in Nepal.

Hiking clockwise from Gokyo Lakes to Chola Pass presents a tougher challenge due to steep and slippery trail conditions compared to other routes. We regularly seek feedback from our clients upon their return to Kathmandu regarding the difficulty level of Chola Pass. Consistently, their experiences align, noting it as a more adventurous and challenging route, especially compared to the Lobuche to Chola Pass direction.

To ensure a better holiday experience, we prioritize visiting the Everest Base Camp first before crossing the pass to Gokyo Lakes. Our program is designed to incorporate ample rest days and a gradual ascent, allowing for acclimatization to higher altitudes. This approach aims to make this journey more manageable and enjoyable for our trekkers.

Chola Pass Trek Review

Couldn't have asked for a better trip, thanks to Gokyo Treks

Rated 5.0 out of 5
October 19, 2021

We couldn’t recommend Gokyo Treks more highly. From start to finish, everything was seamlessly organized for us. When we first arrived at the busy Kathmandu airport we had to queue with hundreds of others to get our visas but our driver patiently waited for us outside. We were then taken to our comfortable hotel in Thamel for the night and Ammar gave us the rundown of our tour (with a welcome tea on arrival, of course). Ammar is a seasoned professional and will happily help answer any questions you may have prior to or during your trip.

For our trek, we had the fantastic Som as our tour guide. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide! Som has been with Gokyo Treks since the start and is so passionate about his job and sharing stories about Nepal. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge, but he also deeply cares for his clients and will go above and beyond to make sure you have well looked after. Not only that but he is hilarious!

When you are trekking together for 16 days, you need a light-hearted tour guide who you can share a laugh with, and Som will happily smile and laugh with you. Our porter Buddi was also fantastic. Although we can’t speak the same language, Buddi has a smile that will light up a room and makes you feel so welcome every day when he comes to collect your bags. By the end of the tour, we are more than just clients- we are now lifelong friends. If you are looking for an authentic Nepalese experience, book Gokyo Treks.

Together with my wife, we spend a great time trekking combined EBC and Gokyo routes this spring organized with the help of Gokyo Treks and Expeditions. From the first formalities with permissions in Kathmandu, through helpful recommendations on buying/renting some trekking equipment up providing us with our great, knowledgeable and fun guide Bahkta, everything was excellent. Ammar was always very helpful and available on short notice whenever we had any questions or requests and we could recommend this agency to everyone. He tailor a great vacation for us, meeting all our individual needs so we enjoyed he Himalayas greatly and can’t wait to come back again.

We spent a great time travelling in Nepal with Gokyo Treks and Expedition with our guide, Hira, who did a fantastic job showing us the Himalayas. We highly recommend trekking with this agency. Ammar was always very helpful, and answered all the questions we had asked. He was very fair when talking about the costs. Whether we needed their help, they were there.

Ammar was very kind in answering all our questions regarding our trekking in Nepal. We wanted to arrange a guide and porter + permits and plan the trek ourselves which was no problem. Even when we suddenly had to change our trip because of an injury Ammar helped us with making other bookings and refunded all the money that we had paid in advance for transportation tickets. Thanks again Ammar.
