This vibrant square offers a glimpse into Nepal’s rich history and culture, featuring notable landmarks such as the Hanuman Dhoka Palace, Taleju Temple, and Kumari Ghar, as well as the opportunity to witness daily rituals and festivals that celebrate the living heritage of the Kathmandu Valley.
Today, take the early morning Bus transport from Kathmandu to Chhetchhet which drive finishes the rough ride on the winding and dusty highway. The dusty road ride with wonderful scenes and sprouting rhododendron blossoms in transit make your lengthy drive worthwhile. We stay at Chhetchhet for an overnight stay in a lodge.
Our journey begins on a trail through dense forests of rhododendron and orchids to Simi Gaon. Many times of ascending and descending journey along the banks of the Rolwaling river take us through a narrow valley to a suspension bridge across which a steep climb takes us to the hillside village of Simigaun. Simigaon stands at an altitude on 2,036 meters above the sea that offers finest view of Gauri Shankar mountain.
This morning, the sun rises over the majestic Gaurishankar as we ascend a forest ridge-line above the Rolwaling Valley. Ahead of us, the sharp peak of Gaurishankar (7,135 meters) stands prominently on the border with Tibet. We then contour the northern edge of the valley before descending slightly to Kharka, where we will stay overnight.
We continue along the left bank of Rowaling River and the forests start to thin out around us. To our left the valley’s Southern slope arise up gradually become the ridge-series shaping the border with Tibet. Ahead of us the superb south west face of Kang Nachugo rears up to 6,737 meters as part of this series. Beding is a nice Sherpa village stands at 3,440 meters on the bank of Rolwaling Khola offers some guest houses and a Gompa.
A pastoral scene unfolds around Beding where fields of buckwheat and barley are punctuated by grazing mountain yaks. To our left, a stunning ridge line formed by Bamango, Checking, and Konyklemo stands to be admired. Passing an impressive monastery, we reach our overnight stop at Na. Nagaon is a Sherpa village that situated at an elevation on 4,183 meters above the sea and offers some nice guest houses.
As we reach Nagaon in the midday, we would have plenty of time in the afternoon to explore something around. Likewise, our guide and the kitchen crew will make final preparations of all entire foods that we require to take up to the higher camps for the next few days.
Cross the Tsho Rolpa River, traverse through a picturesque valley, and then ascend to the glacial moraine wall at Tso Rolpa Lake (4,588m), where we set up our campsite. Viewpoint just above the lake offers breathtaking landscapes, showcasing the lake itself and the glacial Rolwaling path. Known as Chukyima Pokhari, the area is renowned for its spiritual significance, providing a serene setting where Tibetan Buddhists engage in their daily routines.
Beneath the towering peak of Menlung, we get our first glimpse of the Trakarding Glacier. Upon reaching Tso Rolpa, we establish our tent for an overnight stay. Remainder of the time is spent exploring the area, which aids in better acclimatization. Since the 1950s, the lake has been steadily growing, raising concerns about the stability of the moraine dam at its western end. Consequently, a channel was cut through the rocky moraine dam, and an engineered sluice was installed to relieve the pressure..
We will pass along the flank of the lake and camp either alongside at Kabug or just past the lake. Today’s trip is harder then earlier days therefore we walk only a short distance with four hours only.
on the west flank of Parchamo, and where the Drolambau glacier tumbles down from the canyon to the north. Depending on the conditions on the hillside and the glacier its self we will pick a route up to a rocky rib on the outer south east edge of the valley corner where we will set up the campsite. Note that Trakarding Glacier is commonly spoken as a Tashi Lapcha base camp.
We will make an early start to make the most of the more stable, frozen, slopes above us. The epic crossing of Tashi Lapcha pass will leave you breathless, with jaw-dropping high mountain scenery along the way. In terms of high altitude and higher elevations, crossing Tashi Lapcha is the hardest day hike and the most difficult hike in the world. Comparing other tent treks in the Himalayas, Tashi Lepcha is a difficult hiking trail in Nepal but not the most dangerous hike in the world.
Parchamo will keep us in the shade so the first few hours will be cold as we push on slowly up the Drolambau glacier with Teng Ragi Tau massive in front of us. As we reach its flank we double back on ourselves on a glacial camp up to the Tashi Labsta Pass. Here we emerge into the full force of the sun and get our first view down into the Thame River valley as it drops toward the Khumbu. We go a little past the pass and round to a large overhanging cave at the foot of the Teng Ragi Tau where we make our high camp.
If we feel better and well acclimatize then we proceed to start early to begin Pachermo summit attempt. Cross the glacial moraine at the pass and then rope up to begin the steeper ground. We are essentially following the longtail – ridgeline up to the summit but it will involve some degree of winding back and forth around undulations and pinnacles before we reach the summit. The view out from the summit takes in an unimaginable view of several mountains including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu ..etc. After the required photos we will carefully begin the descent back to our high camp to meet the entire crew.
This extra day includes to guarantee a successful summit of Pachermo, if weather condition is unfavorable. We make sure our team members are properly acclimatized for the ascent. Meanwhile, we arrive at our camping spot on time to witness an unforgettable sunset view over Everest territory. Additionally, we take the opportunity to clean the base camp.
Descending downhill is even more harder then ascend therefore we leave early to again make the most of the time when the ice and rocks are well frozen and stable. We select our way carefully down initially steep ground and then to a set of small lakes. At this point, it’s an easier a few kilometers down to Thengpo. If we all feel good we may push on down to Thame to give us more time in Namche tomorrow. Also, visit an ancient monastery above Thame.
Thme village is a traditional Sherpa village in the Everest Region of Nepal, and that receives fewer visitors than other villages in the Khumbu Territory. It’s also a legendary of Sherpa inhabitants. The trail from Thame monastery to Namche Bazaar is fine, easy and 9.7 kilo meters distance that we can cover in three hours Journey. However, a short trek to Namche gives you a chance to enjoy the fabulous mountains scenery, National park museum etc.
The final descent to Lukla is steep and rocky, but the oxygen-rich air will bring great comfort. Descending into the lush jungles against the roar of the Dudh Koshi below, we’ll leave the Himalayan giants behind us and stop for our final rest in Lukla.
A morning flight will bring us back to Kathmandu. Guide will arrange a privte transfer to you hotel. Enjoy the sights and sounds of bustling Thamel for the evening and reminisce about an amazing journey.
Drop you in Kathmandu International Airport onward to your final destination and our trip ends. Wish you a wonderful journey.
