We pre-booked a guide with Gokyo less than a week before the start date and chatted with Ammar to arrange the details.

He asked us to send a deposit of 100usd which seemed fair and although it felt a little unsecure to make a money transfer before meeting the guy, we understood his reason.

Upon arrival in Katmandou, Ammar and Kamal whom would be our guide for the next 16 days came to meet us at our hotel and finalized the details.

The next morning, Kamal came to pick us up at our hotel and we left for the bus to Beshisahar, where we started the trek.

Kamal Bahadur Khatri, speak a good English, and is probably the best guide we could have hired. He was very friendly and became a good friend during our time together. He went beyond our expectations and always make sure we’d stop in the best tea house and often deal with our room rates.

My wife got terrible blisters and was forced to continue with sandals for some time. Kamal kindly proposed to carry her bag when badly needed.

When we arrived at Manang, the weather forecast was not good and Kamal made the call to push a little and go through Thorang La Pass before the snowstorm (which blocked the way and kept many trekkers for almost a week).

We were debating either hire a guide or go by ourselves, but im pretty sure that giving the time of the year, the weather and our trekking experience, we would not have made it through without Kamal.

Overall, our experience with Gokyo was great, but mainly because our trek with Kamal was absolutely amazing.

Gokyo Treks were responsive and professional from start to finish, and I couldn’t recommend them more. If you are looking to hike in the region, they will go the extra lengths to accommodate for your specific needs.

Special thanks goes out to Rajesh – our super guide. He was everything we could have asked for from a guide; attentive, knowledgeable, kind, sociable. He made the 10 days that much more enjoyable for us and his infectious passion for the mountains elevated the experience up another notch.

Together with my wife, we spend a great time trekking combined EBC and Gokyo routes this spring organized with the help of Gokyo Treks and Expeditions. From the first formalities with permissions in Kathmandu, through helpful recommendations on buying/renting some trekking equipment up providing us with our great, knowledgeable and fun guide Bahkta, everything was excellent. Ammar was always very helpful and available on short notice whenever we had any questions or requests and we could recommend this agency to everyone. He tailor a great vacation for us, meeting all our individual needs so we enjoyed he Himalayas greatly and can’t wait to come back again.

I had the amazing trekking experience yet challenging as well and all thanks to Gokyo Treks and Expedition! The trek was well planned by Ammar. Nepal is a beautiful country and it is such a waste to not visit. I went there with a group of friends for two weeks trek to Everest Base Camp. We even successfully reach to the top of Mt Kala Patthar. Som, our trusted guide is very friendly. He find good accommodation for us with beautiful view and really nice place to stay. He even help me carrying my bag when im was tired. Som is very experienced and knowledgeable about the Himalayas. I believe that Gokyo treks are well organized and provide excellence services which i highly recommended.

Nepal is quite magical and so different from many other countries in a very spiritual way. You can be a child there, without regard for the rest of the world.

I’ve been there for 20 days and Ammar accompanied me in the Annapurna trekking.

I am absolutely sure it doesn’t exist a safer and better way to discover this paradise from every side and learn what the real Nepal is than travel around with a person who not only is one of the smartest and most well-prepared guides I’ve ever known (who also manages the project to help local population with the Agency’s and personal incomes) but also a wonderful person who takes care of you, becoming as close as your family.
