Pharping or Phamting is a small Newar town lying above the Bagmati River on the southern edge of Kathmandu city. Pharping is famous for the 1st Hydropower Station, Chandra Jyoti Griha, which was Nepal’s First and Asia’s 2nd Hydropower Station.

In addition, there are two caves in Pharping one called Asura Cave and the other one called Yangleshoe. However, both of them are about 23 kilometers south of Thamel, Kathmandu. It is now part of the Dakshinkali Municipality.
