Adventurers leads to both the North and South Base Camps of Mount Kanchenjunga, standing proudly at 8,586 meters in eastern Nepal. Along this remarkable route, trekkers reach high Himalayan border, passing Kangbachen, the lowest among the massif at 7,903 meters just before ascending toward Kanchenjunga South, which rises to an impressive 8,494 meters.

Mt. Kanchenjunga Central at 8,482m, Kanchenjunga West at 8,505 meters, and the highest Kanchenjunga at 8,586m at the eastern Himalayas are on the border of Nepal and Sikkim.

Ramche to Yalung Glacier hiking is a way to get an excellent view of the Kanchenjunga South face. Likewise, Pang Pema Base Camp to Drohmo Ri hill hiking is a northern trail to get to Kanchenjunga north base camp, and both peaks are located above 17,000 feet.

To run the World Wildlife Fund, protecting Kanchenjunga territory declared as a conservation area. You can see an endangered Red panda animal on the parkside, encircled by dozens of peaks, each of them competing with its queen.

Not only exploring Taplejung provides the chance to make some enchanting memories for visitors, and tour the local landmarks. There was also operating a direct flight from Kathmandu to Suketar Airport (Taplejung) some months before. Though, it was mainly focused on the tourist flow season. Other than that you need to fly to Bhadrapur & travel to Taplejung by a private jeep for a comfort trip.

Question: How can I get the permits If I am a solo trekker?

Answer: Solo trekkers cannot obtain individual permits for the Kanchenjunga region, as a minimum of two people is required by regulation. Joining a group is the best option or partner with another trekker to share the permit. We can help connect you with other participants who are planning the same route. This way, you can legally secure the permits while also sharing guide costs and enjoying added safety.

Level of trek difficulty for Kanchenjunga circuit Trek

Trek to Kanchenjunga is a less difficult trekking route in Nepal. Before you plan to visit the Kanchenjunga base camp, we recommend you perform at least one smaller or a short trek route in Nepal to experience the high altitude. Ascending slowly is the best way to acclimatize quickly. Acute Mountain Sickness and weather are the two major key factors that make Kanchenjunga Trek difficult for trekkers.

Although the Kanchenjunga view trek is moderately difficult, you can follow some basic techniques to minimize the challenges. If you have a dream to cross Sinon / Mirgin La (15,300 feet) glacier passes, you can go as a basic lodge style trek depending on the weather conditions. Do not walk fast and drinking enough makes your blood thin which protects you from dehydration and helps with proper acclimatization.

Best time for a trek to Kanchenjunga Circuit

Exploring Kanchenjunga Circuit is during the pre-monsoon (spring) and post-monsoon (autumn) seasons, typically from late March to May and late September to November. During these months, the skies are generally clear and provides a breathtaking panoramic views of Kanchenjunga and surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Spring brings vibrant rhododendron blooms and lush greenery along the trail, while autumn provides crisp weather and stable conditions, making trekking safer and more enjoyable. These months are perfect for trekkers seeking spectacular mountain photography, rich cultural experiences, and pristine landscapes.

Visiting in the spring or autumn also ensures ideal trekking conditions, with manageable temperatures and minimal rainfall on the high mountain trails. Snowfall is limited to the upper regions, so the paths remain mostly navigable, reducing risks associated with slippery terrain.

For adventure enthusiasts and high altitude explorers, these seasons combine the perfect blend of adventure, safety, and visual splendor, making the Kanchenjunga Circuit one of most rewarding trekking experiences in eastern Nepal.

Notes for Kanchenjunga base camp trekkers!

A tek to Kanchenjunga is a remote and challenging adventure in one of Nepal’s most pristine trekking regions. Due to its high altitude and rough landscapes, proper acclimatization is essential to avoid altitude sickness. And a regular training beforehand is highly advisable.

Trekkers should also ensure they carry sufficient warm clothing and reliable trekking gear, as the weather often unpredictable and temperatures can drop significantly. Additionally, the Kanchenjunga region falls under a restricted area, so book your trip with us to arrange your all trekking permits. Lastly, being environmentally conscious and respectful of the local cultures and traditions is crucial, as the area is home to diverse flora, fauna, and unique Himalayan communities.

Kanchenjunga Trek Review

Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trekking Just Stunning

October 30, 2023

My husband Enrico and I recently booked a small group private trip with Ammar from Gokyo Treks Agency for our express two weeks to Kanchenjunga north base camp trekking. Ammar efficiently handled all our flights and hotel bookings in the city, ensuring everything was fantastic.

Our guide, Nir Kumar, was not just friendly but also an incredible person who made our journey comfortable. He went above and beyond to ensure we relished every moment on the trail. Lhakpa, the porter arranged en route, was equally amiable and always eager to assist us.

In general, the trek was an amazing experience, and we’re already contemplating our next adventure with them to Lumba Sumba Pass. They offered the most trial time in the higher reaches at the most affordable rates. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an unforgettable trekking experience!

The best of Kanchenjunga circuit Trek in 2018

October 22, 2018

We were 4 friends from the Netherlands who found Gokyo Treks Nepal over the internet forum. It’s our second-time visit to Nepal for trekking. We read a lot of good reviews so we wanted to book for the Kanchenjunga base camp trek with Gokyo Treks.

Basically, the Kanchenjunga trek is off a beaten path trek route in Nepal. Fewer travelers and lodges were just basic. You get an opportunity to explore the true reality of local culture and green vegetation as well as the white snowcapped mountain. The passes are difficult as were not experienced hikers however we made this trip in three weeks. Thanks, Gokyo treks Nepal for your great help to arranging all of our restricted area permits, booking flights, and necessary crew.
