Overview

The Salpa Pass Trek is located at an altitude of 3,358 meters, a part of Arun valley is a blend of remoteness, adventure, and natural beauty. Arun valley combined with Salpa la trekking is categorized as an off-the-beaten isolated trekking trail that connects with the popular Everest region.

There are two different passes along the journey, the Salpa La (3,350m/10,991 feet) and the Surkie La Pass (3,085m/10,121 feet). Walk to the large rock outcrop across the meadow and follow the narrow path as it threads through the rocks and down the high rhododendron forested ridge. The trail Arun valley and Salpa pass trekking have a unique ecosystem and the area is dominated by Makalu-Barun National Park.

From the Salpa La summit, it is possible to visit the nearby holy lake – Salpa drops from Salpa la to the Arun Valley. View of Milke Danda (which is also a popular trekking route) a large ridge across the Arun to the east and possibly even the Kanchenjunga massif far to the northeast are simply awesome just before the descent from summit pass.

Diversity of flowers and the butterflies at this altitude are truly appreciated. Since there are very few modern facilities and amenities, a well-supported camp crew and a guided team are recommended. However, the best Arun valley and Salpa la Trek start at Tumlingtar and finish at Salleri Bazaar. But it is possible to do it from both sides according to your want.

Arun valley combined with Salpa la hikes has very beautiful landscapes and wilderness treks passing through tiny villages which is almost the best place to see real Nepal. Hike into Arun valley is possible to do at any time except wintertime throughout Nepal.
